Barometrix Announces Rational IQ™ Rationalization Solution for Applications and Infrastructure

Enhanced Capabilities Combine Methods, Tools and Precision IQ™ Software - Built on Proven Barometrix and Partner Capabilities

Framingham, MA – October 5, 2004 – Barometrix today announced enhancements to its rationalization solution for infrastructure and applications. Targeted at IT portfolio and application managers, Rational IQ™ is the latest release of the company’s rationalization solution designed to streamline application and infrastructure portfolios.

Rational IQ™ combines frameworks, tools and software to allow companies to identify underperforming assets and take remedial action. Rational IQ includes:

  • Methodologies – Documented methods and processes used by practitioners in real world rationalization projects to capture/group assets and allocate cost and business value. Included is a Rationalization Framework and executive communication strategies.

  • Education – Documentation and training on rationalization methods and processes and the use of Precision IQ™ software to analyze and manage rationalization initiatives.

  • Precision IQ Software – The world’s best project analytics software. Used to evaluate rationalization scenarios, including Invest, Consolidate, Sunset, Migrate, Retire and other defined investment choices.

Commenting on the announcement, David Floyer, CTO of Barometrix said, “Rational IQ™ provides an objective framework to make difficult portfolio decisions. It is not always easy to tell the business, we are implementing a strategy that consolidates or retires one of your applications, but it is going to make us stronger in the end. By providing a packaged solution combining proven methods, tools, education and software, our clients can effectively communicate the logic of their investment choices and add value to their businesses much more quickly.”

Rational IQ™ uses proven approaches developed by Barometrix and partners, in conjunction with clients. The process involves defining business processes and mapping them into specified assets (e.g. applications). Asset evaluations determine their contribution to the business processes defined. Costs and business contribution allocations provide an outcome that quantifies the return on invested resources. Once established, executives communicate these values in multiple dimensions, including cost and business value to build corporate consensus.

Precision IQ™ software provides the platform to test the validity of multiple what-if investment scenarios presented to the governance organization for review and selection. Precision IQ and management processes provide the capability to manage and course correct rationalization projects in an ongoing manner.

Rational IQ™ is available immediately and builds on existing Barometrix and partner capabilities. More information on the framework, tools and solution, including sample outcomes is available at the following URL:
